Message from the Dean

Dean Khurana

Dear Harvard College Parents and Guardians,

With our students’ finals completed and Commencement and summer only hours away, I have been reflecting on another year as Dean of Harvard College.

This year our entire community worked together to strengthen our foundations as a College, preparing us for the 21st century. It has been an incredible year of inspired learning and teaching, and I am incredibly thankful for the many moments of thoughtful reflection and productive community dialogue that occurred across our campus – all of which have been instrumental in making Harvard an intellectually vibrant and inclusive community.

I have greatly enjoyed the many opportunities I've had this year to engage with and learn from your students. I look forward to our continued engagement in the fall.

Warmly,
Rakesh Khurana
Danoff Dean of Harvard College

Did You Know?

The Harvard Lampoon turns 140 this year! The first volume of the Lampoon appeared in the year 1876. Written by seven undergraduates and modeled on Punch, the British humor magazine, the debut issue took the Harvard campus by storm. United States President Ulysses S. Grant was advised not to read the magazine, as he would be too much “in stitches” to run the government. The exhibition Remorseless Irony and Sarcastic Pens: The Story of the Harvard Lampoon opens this Friday, May 27, and runs through October 2, 2016, in the Lammot du Pont Copeland Gallery in Pusey Library on the Harvard campus and is free and open to the public.
